I have been asked many times why I have chosen to support Freshfields Animal Rescue and guide the miscreants around the streets of Liverpool on Ghost Tours.
Some years ago, I was being chased by the Militia across Sefton. My horse Heeundie had begun to limp and I had to dismount. We hid behind a large oak tree until the danger had passed and I tried to look at Heeundie’s hoof. Sadly, he is the most temperamental of animals and I could not get near him.
I had noticed Freshfields Animal Rescue on my travels and as it was but a short distance to travel I made my way there. I had no idea what to expect but I was greeted by a friendly lady who guided me into a small courtyard. She explained that their horses were no longer kept at Freshfields Liverpool; they had all been moved to a new Equine Centre in Wales. She went to find someone to help me.
As I waited I took the opportunity to look around. To my amazement, I found all manner of animals from turtles to birds, rabbits, cats, dogs and even farm animals. I could not believe there were so many who needed a home, but I knew they were safe and well looked after at the Rescue.
A tall quiet man came to attend to my horse. He spoke gently and he had removed a stone from Heeyundie’s hoof in but a second. I thanked him and offered to pay for his kindness. He declined but told me I could help out with the Liverpool Ghost Walks that ran weekly. It must have taken a lot of money to keep all those beautiful animals and the money the Ghost Walks raised helped to keep the Rescue open.
I thanked him again and went on my way.
I have centuries of tales to tell. If you would like to follow my adventures, please become a follower of my blog... sincerely, The Captain....
